1- Style

Curtains finish a room, it is often the last thing you acquire, by this stage, you should have achieved a certain look or particular colour scheme. It is important that your curtains match the style of your room as they are more often than not a focal point.

It’s important to note from an interior decor perspective if you are wanting to go for a modern or more traditional look as each style of curtain will help you achieve this goal.

2- Length and lining

When choosing a curtain a lining will be a crucial factor – will it be blackout for the bedroom and translucent for the living or do you prefer the natural light piercing the fabric during your morning routine?

In a bedroom you may want 2-3 cm on the floor to block out any additional light, or in front of a balcony door to prevent any sand entering the room. You may want a more conformed, sleek look where the curtains hang freely 1 cm above the floor to accentuate the wave and showoff the ‘perfect fit’ look.

3- Purpose

Before you divulge into customising your curtains it’s important to decide what the function is.

Are you having dress curtains, which are great for layering with blinds? In which case you may not want to opt for a thick fabric as the bunching may cover more of your window than you like.

Are they for privacy? Adding an additional sheer curtain means you can achieve this throughout the day and night.

4- Fabric textures and colours

5- Blackout

Undeniably curtains are one of the best options when it comes to making a room dark, however, you can never achieve 100% blackout. You may be asking why as you’ve chosen a blackout lining?

Yes, our linings are 100% blackout however light will always come over the top of the curtain and also around the side and along the floor. This is accentuated when your curtain is outside a recess. All of our advisors will explain the best option for you!

The best way to tackle this issue is layering with our Blockout system, which includes a blackout roller blind and side channel.
